Procedures for Criminal Background Checks
Pursuant to the “Criminal Background Checks for the Protection of Children Act of 2004” and the "Child and Youth, Safety and Health Omnibus Congressional Review Emergency Amendment Act of 2005 (CYSHA),” persons working with children and youth are required to ungergo criminal background checks every two years.
Criminal background checks must come from both the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).
To schedule your criminal background check appointment:
- Officials should contact OSSE Representative, Ramia Heard at 202-741-2102 or via email at Ramia.Heard@dc.gov to schedule your criminal background check.
- Your OSSE Representative will schedule your criminal background check appointment with the Metropolitan Police Department Headquarters.
- Prior to reporting to the Metropolitan Police Department, thoroughly complete the following documents (signature is required for completion):
- Notification Form
- Authorization Form
- Affirmation Form
- Individual Notification of Criminal Background Check and Traffic Record Check Requirement
